Language: The Cycle of Appropriation

This presentation takes a sociological and linguistic perspective on cultural appropriation going through the stages of language as cultural capital, appropriation, oppression, and finally liberation with the example of ballroom slang used by US Black and Latinx drag queens in the 80s and 90s weaved throughout.
